A mother’s day

‘Mum can you go in your study while our friends are here?’

‘Sure.’ I put lightness in my voice, because…well, because of course. He’s nearly eight years old.

Child runs away, but after a few steps stops.

Turns.

Speaks.

‘But maybe don’t close the door.’

Child turns and runs again, joins brother in never-ending soccer game.
